# 3-phase model for controlling negative emotions

Model developed by Craig Runde and Tim Flanagan to help keep negative emotions from getting out of control.
**Phase 1 - Cooling down**
- Be aware of your triggers and how you respond
**Phase 2 - Slowing down**
- Take a break and practice deep breathing.
- Don't jump to conclusions about the other.
**Phase 3 - Engaging constructively**
- Once emotions are under control, consider the other perspective by listening
- Share how you feel
- Reengage to find win-win solution
