She identifies three crises facing our world (crisis of climate, crisis of inequality, and crisis of trust) and argues that we need a new form of leadership to effectively address them. She further contends that we need courageous leaders who are humble and guided by a [[moral compass]], which she defines as the combination of social purpose and a clear set of principles. The three principles she and her organization adopted, in answer to the three crises, are sustainability, equality and accountability. I think an answer to the leadership crisis that Tómasdóttir identifies is [[collaborative leadership]] as defined by Lorna Davis (2019). Davis distinguishes between [[heroic leaders]] and [[interdependent leaders]], arguing that our world today needs the latter. As she states, " . . . the idea that one person has the answer is ludicrous. It's not only ineffective, it's dangerous. Because it leads us to believe that its' been solved by that hero and we have no role" (Davis, 2019, 2:00). Davis puts forth three ways in which interdependent leaders are different from heroic leaders, and I believe they align well with Tómasdóttir's set of principles. First, Davis (2019) argues that interdependent leaders start with a very important goal that is impossible to achieve by one person or organization alone. In order for the work to be _sustainable_, and the goal achieved, individuals and organizations need to work together. Second, interdependent leaders are willing to declare their goals before they have a plan because they want others to be involved in the creation of the plan. This builds a sense of ownership and _accountability_. And finally, according to Davis, interdependent leaders understand that they need other people. They know they need a diversity of thoughts and experiences to find the best answer to a problem, which I would argue depends on _equality_. ## Sources [[A Guide to Collaborative Leadership - Davis 2019]] [[The Crisis of Leadership - Tómasdóttir & Freedman 2019]]
