#🌱 #🟠 # Connection between Kegan's two selves and Kahneman's two selves ![[calendar-plus.svg]] Nov 03, 2022 | ![[calendar-clock.svg]] Jan 02, 2023 🏷️ [[Leadership MOC]] Carey's description of [[Robert Kegan]]'s distinction between two personality structures: the [[self-as-object]] and the [[self-as-subject]] reminded me of the two selves [[Daniel Kahneman]] identifies in his TED talk, [The Riddle of Experience vs. Memory](https://www.ted.com/talks/daniel_kahneman_the_riddle_of_experience_vs_memory?language=en). Kahneman describes our [[experiencing self]] as one who lives in the present and knows the present, which I liken to Kegan's [[self-as-object]]. The [[remembering self]], as Kahneman describes it, is a storyteller that crafts our memories of experiences and is the one that makes our decisions. As the self with the ability to view the world and our experiences, I correlate that to Kegan's [[self-as subject]]. ## Sources [[Heraclitean Fire - Carey 1999]] [[The Riddle of Experience vs. Memory - Kahneman 2010]]
