People want a leader who they can trust to be honest, trust to be competent, trust to be passionate, and trust to know where they're going (Kouzes & Posner, 2017). But how do you build that trust? Sinek (2014) argues that trust and cooperation are feelings that occur naturally when we feel safe among our own, in a circle of safety. He goes further to say that when a leader makes the choice to put people first and make them feel safe inside the circle, remarkable things will happen. Leaders, by definition, need to go first, take on the risk, and make sacrifices so their people will be safe and protected (Sinek, 2014). When the do, people will sacrifice in return and give their all because they trust that "they would have done it for me" (Sinek, 2014, 2:50). An example of this is a ritual shared by Daisy Auger-Dominguez in Keswin's (2021) *Rituals Roadmap.* Whenever she takes over a new team, Daisy has everyone participate in a 'manager integration exercise.' ![[Rituals Roadmap - Keswin 2021#^7eb53c]] ## Sources [[Rituals Roadmap - Keswin 2021]] [[The Leadership Challenge - Kouzes & Posner 2017]] Sinek, S.
