It is composed of four distinct stages: ### Deconstruction: What don't I want? Hard reality often intrudes in our lives and our plans in ways we are not expecting. The first stage is an awareness that the way you make sense of the world no longer works. ### Choice: What do I want? How do we respond to what reality deals us? We can choose to take steps toward a new way of being in the world. Choice, in this context, is an active decision to move forward on your developmental journey toward authenticity. ### Reconstruction: How do I get what I want? Once we have made the choice to reject our old way of being, what does it mean to become something new? In this stage you must reflect on what are the consequences and costs of seeking a new path. ### Integration: How do I live when I have it? After reflection it may become clear that our old way of being is still a part of us and doesn't need to be rejected, but reconciled with the new. How do you do you find a balanced way of living your new way of being in the world? ## Sources Carey, M. (n.d.). *ORGL 600 Course Introduction Part 2* [Video]. Blackboard. https://learn.gonzaga.edu
