Consensus decision making is the simplest [[group decision making]] style. Group identifies the problem and potential solutions and then agrees to one decision.
Usually a final choice is suggested and then altered to reflect inputs from members to obtain group support.
Multiple models of consensus decision making:
- [[consensus oriented decision making]]
- [[Quaker based consensus decision making]]
- [[Delphi model]]
Strengths:
- Encourages ownership of decision
- Prevents one or few people from taking charge
Weaknesses:
- time consuming
- requires high level of trust within group
- not useful when decision is polarizing
- all members must be willing to participate ([note on p.7](zotero://open-pdf/library/items/FQ672TGH?page=7))
