# emotional labor
When frontline workers manage their feelings to present a positive public face to customers/clients.
Being forced to display false emotions can produce dissonance that may lead to stress, cynicism, burnout, job turnover, and difficulties in work relationships.
Emotional labor can also have positive effects. For instance, acting cheerful, even when you're not really feeling it, can reduce levels of stress hormones and increase resistance to disease.
