Significant cultural change requires buy-in from top leadership. There are six mechanisms that leaders can use to establish, maintain, and change [[ethical culture]].
1. **Attention** - what you measure matters, prioritize and consistently communicate about core values and mission
2. **Reactions to critical incidents** - how you respond to stressful events sends message about underlying values
3. **Resource allocation** - how an organization spends its money is a key indicator of its values and priorities
4. **Role modeling** - set an example for others and help them develop, be a coach and teacher
5. **Rewards** - pair with attention to draw focus to important goals, values and desirable behaviors
6. **Selection** - recruit and promote members who share ethical standards and values
