# ethical climate types

1. Instrumental climates- encourage self-serving behavior, often economically driven (highest rates of immoral behavior)
2. Caring climates - emphasize concern of others and organization as a whole, even at cost of individual needs
3. Rules climates - governed by policies, rules, and procedures
4. Law and code climates - rely on external criteria or principles, like professional codes of conduct or laws for guidance
5. Independence climates - principled but encourage individuals to make choices based on personal values and ethics
An organization's climate may make it more or less susceptible to unethical behavior.
Ethical climates can vary between departments and locations within an organization.
