Group decision making is the opposite of [[autocratic decision making]]. Focuses on a deliberate process that involves all interested members instead of speed.
More important as systems become more complex. Requires representation from all parts of the system. According to [[Otto Scharmer]], transformational system change requires collaborative model.
Two common types of group decision making:
- [[consensus decision making]]
- [[voting-based decision making]]
Strengths:
- synergy
- increased information sharing
- increased alternatives
- greater acceptance of outcomes
- group knowledge development
Weaknesses:
- time consuming
- risk of domination by one or few members
- [[groupthink]]
- homogeneity ([note on p.6](zotero://open-pdf/library/items/FQ672TGH?page=6))
