# tradition
Value whose defining goals are respect, commitment and acceptance of the customs and ideas that one's culture or religion provides.
Traditions symbolize group's solidarity, express its unique worth, and contribute to its survival.
Specific value items include: respect for tradition, humble, devout, accepting my portion in life, moderate, spiritual life.
Tradition and [[conformity]] are motivationally close in that they both subordinate the self to socially imposed expectations. Tradition subordinates to more abstract objects like religious and cultural customs and ideas and demands responsiveness to unchanging expectations from the past.
