# Abstract
[[project manager|Project managers]] very often work with [[cross-functional team|cross-functional teams]]. Managing cross-functional teams effectively requires a project manager to clarify goals, get team members with the right skills, measure progress, and recognize efforts.
# Notes & Important Ideas
### Clarify goals
- Important to make sure each member of the team understands their role, how they support each other, and the shared project goal.
- When communicating task or project goals, be sure to identify key items, such as budget, deadlines, quality requirements, or important resources
- Encourage team members to ask questions and clarify information.
- Continuously check-in with your team to make sure they are staying on track and completing quality work.
- Communicate clearly and often to help identify any potential issues or concerns before they arise.
### Get team members with the right skills
- Ensure that your team has the right people with the right skill sets needed for the project to succeed
### Measure progress
- Keep the team motivated by showing them what they've accomplished
- Measure and communicate project progress
- Key milestones
- Completed project tasks
- Meeting project goals on time and within budget
- Regularly communicate with team members to check on their progress
- If they're not on deadline, ask how you can help them succeed.
- Document when tasks and goals are completed and let your team know if the project is on track or not.
### Recognize efforts
- Make sure that every team member recognizes the value of their efforts along the way
- Build relationships with your team members and learn what makes them feel supported
- Give and take feedback
- Be mindful of each individual's background, personal identifiers, and work style
